The Big Shed

The BIG SHED, is a proposed new build community mixed use building. It will provide afffordable workspaces for local micro businesses, social enterprises and community groups. We have planning permission for a timber framed, timber clad building with a 'footprint' of 240 square metres, plus an additional 60 square meters of first floor office space.

Possible micro businesses and users of the BIG SHED include a kitchen and bakery, an accountants office, a market gardening company, an engineering and motor repair workshop, the Loch Tay Food Chain, arts and cultural activities, workshops and studio workspaces for visiting artists.

The design brief for the BIG SHED is that it should be a flexible multi-purpose space, capable of being used by different people and groups at different times. The building will be an exemplar of eco-design with low carbon emissions and a reduced eco-footprint. Insulation levels will be higher than required by current building regulations, and the building will be heated totally from renewable sources.

Where possible the building materials will be local, of natural and renewable origin, chemical free, and with a percentage of reclaimed and recycled materials and components. We are hoping to source most of the contstruction timber from Bolfracks Estate near Aberfeldy, and Ardchyle in Glen Dochart.

Loch Tayside Community Interest Company has the specific remit to build the BIG SHED as a community owned and managed workspace.

The Company's objects are;"Principally, Building and Managing the community resource of The Big Shed at Tombreck, Lawers for the benefit of the communities surrounding Loch Tay including Killin Lawers, Fearnan, Kenmore and Acharn "
